This guide uses a Serifize mailbox as the forwarding address. Serifize turns each email into a clean Kindle ebook before sending it on. You can forward straight to your @kindle.com address instead, but Gmail requires every forwarding address to confirm a verification email first, and a Kindle can't open one.
Step 1: Add your Serifize address in Gmail
- On a computer, open Gmail, click the gear icon, then See all settings.
- Open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
- Click Add a forwarding address, paste your Serifize address and click Next → Proceed.
Step 2: Let Serifize confirm it
Gmail now emails a confirmation link to your Serifize address. Serifize clicks it for you automatically. Wait about a minute, then reload the Gmail settings page. The address should no longer say it's waiting for verification.
You can leave the forwarding setting on Disable forwarding. The filter below works either way.
Step 3: Create a filter for your newsletters
- Open any email from a newsletter you want on your Kindle.
- Click the three-dot More menu, then Filter messages like this. Gmail fills in the sender for you.
- Click Create filter.
- Tick Forward it to and choose your Serifize address.
- Click Create filter.
Repeat for each newsletter, or make one filter that covers many at once:
- All Substack newsletters: in the From box, enter
substack.com - Several senders:
from:(substack.com OR beehiiv.com OR stratechery.com)
Step 4: Approve Serifize on Amazon
Amazon only accepts documents from approved senders. Add your Serifize address to the Approved Personal Document E-mail List in your Amazon account. See how to do it on every Amazon store.
Using Outlook instead?
Outlook.com uses rules instead of filters. Open Settings → Mail → Rules, add a new rule with the condition From set to the newsletter's address, and the action Forward to your Serifize address.
Skip forwarding entirely
For new subscriptions you don't need any of this: just subscribe using your Serifize address and issues go straight to your Kindle. Forwarding is mainly useful for newsletters you already get, and for paid subscriptions tied to your personal email.
